The project as paper collage is suitable for grades 3 thru 8; the project as a more simple drawing with minimal collage is suitable for everyone.
Happy Earth Day everyone! So, today I have created a video that shows how to begin the flower collage portion of this project.
First, I want to share with you a video reading of the book "Bee: A Peak Through Picture Book" by Britta Teckentrup.
This book is beautifully illustrated using paper collage and printmaking techniques. We're going to explore a bit of that in our piece too. I would refer back to this book for inspiration for your flowers and leaves.
The materials you will need to complete this project as a collage are as follows:
construction paper - various colors (greens, oranges, pinks, yellows, reds, blue)
patterned paper
scissors
glue stick (NOT liquid glue)
pencil
bubble wrap
paintbrush
yellow tempera or washable kids paint
permanent black marker (Sharpie)
Alternatively, if you wish to do the more basic drawn version:
a piece of paper for your base drawing
crayons
permanent black marker (Sharpie)
highlighter marker
glue stick
scissors
Click on the link below for my instructional video. This video is about 40 minutes long. I talk a bit about the book in the beginning and show some details of pages from the book. If you are interested in doing just a more simple, drawn version of this project I would watch the first part, then skip ahead to about the 31 minute mark on the video for the drawing directions.
Tomorrow I will upload the next video where we will add the pollen trail.
See you tomorrow!
